Enrica is a swimrun athlete who has competed in some tough races around the world. She talks to Sundried about training and motivation.
Have you always been into sport?
Yes, since I was a child.
What made you decide to enter the world of swimrun?
I love swimming and running and swimrun is a perfect combination of both. It inspires you to connect with nature, get out of your comfort zone and experience new things in the earth’s most amazing places. For those who enjoy swimming and running but want more of a challenge or outdoor adventure, swimrun is the perfect choice.
What’s been your favourite race to date and why?
ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Engadin Sprint race, it was my first international race in a unique place, hosted in the fantastic Engadin Valley in Switzerland.
And your proudest achievement?
Completing the Trenta Trentina race in Italy. It was my first and only 30km running race. I trained hard and sacrificed a lot, I ran the entire race alone, and it was a very difficult, hilly route. When I crossed the finish line, I thought “I did it!“ It was a great feeling which I'll never forget.
Have you ever had any racing disasters/your toughest race yet?
Absolutely, yes! When you start racing, you don't know your limits yet and, taken by adrenaline, you tend to start the race too fast and burn out after a few miles.
My toughest race was Swimrun Cheers Race, it has a D+ that puts a strain on anyone!
How do you overcome setbacks?
“Never give up” – my motto in sport and life!
What advice do you wish you'd been given before you started competing?
“You trained hard for this! Go, enjoy, and rock it babe”
What are your goals for 2019 and 2020?
In 2019, I have 3 important swimrun races and 1 open water swimming race.
Who do you take your inspiration from?
People with disabilities prove that it is just a state of mind. These athletes have not let their disability hold them back in any way. From competing in international races to bagging gold medals in sports events, there is nothing these champions cannot do! They have made us so proud.
What do you like about Sundried and what’s your favourite bit of our kit?
I like Sundried’s commitment in social responsibility. They create activewear responsibly with a low carbon footprint from sustainable raw materials such as recycled plastic bottles and even recycled coffee grounds. The supply chain is fully transparent from source to sale so you can be sure that everyone involved in the production of their clothing was treated fairly and with respect. The best aspect is that with Sundried, sustainable also means the most advanced technology on the planet, including anti-odour, UV protection, and temperature control.
