Have you always been into sport?
I've always loved being outdoors and exercising. In my youth I was often found in the hills on my mountain bike
How did you first get into triathlon?
The opportunity came along 20 years to have a go at a local triathlon, so I thought 'why not?' and booked some swimming lessons.
If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.
What has been your favourite race to date and why?
Difficult one, as they all been amazing for many different reasons. But if I had to pick one, I'd say Vichy 70.3 - the bike through the little french villages and sunflower fields was simply stunning and with the locals shouting "allez allez allez", it made me feel like I was on the Tour de France.
What is your proudest achievement?
Finishing the Ridgeway 87 mile ultramarathon a few years ago, during one of the hottest days of the year, having collapsed with heat exhaustion after 25 miles. With the help of a couple of other runners, we managed to get my body temp back down and got enough fluids on board to be able to carry on to the end.
Have you ever had any racing disasters?
Not really a disaster, but after resurfacing following a pontoon start, feeling pleased with myself that my goggles were still in place, I promptly got landed on by another keen competitor and lost my goggles in the process
How do you overcome setbacks?
Try to learn from them and move on.
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
Smile for the finish line photographer. There are far too many pictures of me looking pained rather than happy!
Who inspires you?
Those competitors who are still out on the course, long after everyone else, determined to get to the end. That shows real grit and determination.
What are your goals?
To be able to do a flying mount!
