Tony Cantwell - Athlete Ambassador
How did you first get into cycling?
I’m a lockdown cyclist but my distances have gone from a 10 mile struggle to regular 70-80 mile explorations.
If you are interested in getting into cycling, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.
What has been your favourite race to date and why?
Sounds cliché but when I first started cycling and discovered Strava every day became my favourite race always wanting to go faster and further.
What is your proudest achievement?
Hitting the various milestones I had set myself a target of, such as 50 mile then the 100km and now I have the 100 mile in sight.
Have you ever had any racing disasters?
More of a fashion disaster and not that long ago! Joined a local cycling group and whilst still coming to terms with becoming a MAMIL (Middle Aged Man In Lycra) I would wear bright Hugo Boss swimming shorts over the top of my cycling shorts so my first joint ride resulted in 3 hours of ribbing and questions of where my goggles were and was I going for a quick dip every time we passed any kind of body of water.
How do you overcome setbacks?
I see them as a challenge to work around them and bounce back stronger and better.
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
Cadence and correct gearing on hills and ditch the swimming shorts and get decent cycling lycra.
What are your goals?
To carry on enjoying cycling and share my love of the sport with my family as well as this year take part in a couple of sportives and ride my first 100 miles.
Who inspires you?
My kids, I want to be a healthier active dad for them as they grow up.
