Sundried cycling athlete ambassador

Ryan is a cyclist who is hugely inspired by Chris Froome. He talks to Sundried about life in the saddle.

Have you always been into sport?

Yes, I have been been into sport from a very young age. I grew up with a passion for football and rugby but I developed a massive passion for cycling when I was aged 12. I got my first bike and my cycling life took off from there. I started mountain biking and then made the transition to road cycling.

What has been your favourite race to date and why?

My favourite race to date was one that I could only ever dream of competing in. The 2018 Giro d'Italia when Chris Froome attacked in the final two stages and ultimately won the Giro. This is my favourite race to date because Chris Froome showed enough passion and resilience to not give up even though he looked like he had all but lost the race.

My proudest achievement

For me, my proudest achievement has been smashing my own personal goals when it comes to cycling. For me that was cycling 1000km in 2020.. I am now on 1500km.

How do you overcome setbacks?

I have always struggled to overcome setbacks but recently I have found that if I give myself enough recovery time I can come back and achieve my goals and targets. I look into the future and think that if I don't do something I won't achieve my goals and this really helps me.

What are my goals?

My personal goals for the future are:

  1. Ride my first Grand Fondo (100km)
  2. Ride my first sportive
  3. Cycle 1600km in 2020
  4. Compete in a race

Who do I take my inspiration from?

I take my inspiration from many athletes but mostly Chris Froome. When he suffered a career changing crash in 2019, it looked like his time in the saddle would be over but he managed to over turn that and come back better than ever. Seeing what he did really inspired me to get out and ride.

What do I like about sundried and what is my favourite piece of kit?

The main thing that I like about Sundried is that they produce premium kit for a budget-friendly price. The kit looks really nice and I cannot wait to try it out when I can. I like how they create kit for all aspects of sport. I can't comment on my favourite piece of kit yet as I haven't been able to get my hands on any yet but I am looking forward to trying out the bib shorts as I am in the market for a new pair at the moment and they look comfortable!
