Have you always been into sport?

Yes always, since a young age I was always competing in sport, tennis and rugby when I was younger at a decent club level then onto MMA, Boxing and Grappling through my twenties and thirties as well as regular challenges such as Tough Mudder, Deer Stalker and Survival of the Fittest.

How did you first get into triathlon?

During lockdown I needed a focus when the gyms closed so I naturally started training outdoors more, I needed a goal to keep the training up, and I’ve always wanted to complete an Ironman, so I signed up and got started.

If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.

What has been your favourite race to date and why?

My first ever triathlon is in July and I cant wait to get started, I’ve been training hard for it and looking forward to getting started. Apart from that, The Mighty Deerstalker has been my favourite, and by far the hardest event. 10 miles up through the hills and forest, in the dark at night, a gruelling event that I’ve completed twice, a real challenge but a huge reward to just finish!

What is your proudest achievement?

In race terms, completing the deerstalker in under 2 and a half hours. I’ve never had to dig so deep just to keep going. Crossing the finishing line was an amazing experience.

Have you ever had any racing disasters?

When doing ‘survival of the fittest’ I tripped over some barbed wire, cut open my Achilles and has to make a bandage from my sock, I still had about 5 miles to go, but just had to block it out and keep moving!

How do you overcome setbacks?

I’m pretty injury prone, particularly training in MMA, broken bones and fractures come as standard. These have plagued me to this date, but you just need to adjust your training and now more than ever I focus a lot on staying injury free.

What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?

Pace yourself. Stay at your own pace and build it up as you progress. In any sport. Listen to your body and don’t gas yourself early! You’ll always pass the guys who go out hard and fade. Work on your cardio and you’ll maintain a better average pace.

What are your goals?

Complete Ironman. All focus is currently on that!

Who inspires you?

My dad was a great runner, I’ve definitely taken some of my inspiration from him and the success he had. A will to dedicate everything and really focus on training is definitely genetic.  Still fitter than most 21 year olds and he’s 70 now!

Why work with Sundried?

First and foremost I love the products, look great, so well made and comfortable, but their commitment to sustainability and eco-credentials sealed if for me when looking for training gear. I work a lot on projects with similar values, so it aligned with what I’m doing personally and professionally.
