marathon running London athlete

Lilian discovered triathlon while training for a marathon and soon discovered a new passion. She talks to Sundried about training and racing.

Have you always been into sport?

Actually, no. I didn't know triathlon was a sport until I watched the Brownlee brothers at the London Olympics, which got me fascinated by the idea of combining three sports in one.

What made you decide to enter the world of triathlon?

While I was training for a marathon, I would incorporate swimming and cycling as a form of cross training, mainly to allow my joints to recover. I found the training more enjoyable this way, rather than just churning out lots of running miles. So I already did all three disciplines separately, it was only a matter of combining them which was the next challenge.

What’s been your favourite race to date and why?

I've only raced an olympic distance so far, I guess I'm still quite new to the sport, but there will be plenty to come!

And your proudest achievement?

Still pending...

Have you ever had any racing disasters/your toughest race yet?

The toughest time I had was Athens Marathon, looking back though I was just really unconditioned and naive.

How do you overcome setbacks?

First accepting, then learning, taking advice from others and trying again wiser.

What advice do you wish you'd been given before you started competing?

You wouldn't build a house without its foundations first.

What are your goals?

Just continuing to enjoy, experience and learn more of the sport for now. A team GB jersey would be pretty cool too!

Who do you take your inspiration from?

I take a bit of inspiration from all athletes, from novice park runners to elite swimmers, adventurers like Anna McNuff and Ross Edgley, to that person who is literally crawling over the finish line. I have huge respect and admiration for anyone who works hard.

What do you like about Sundried and what’s your favourite bit of our kit?

I love the sustainability values of Sundried, from raw material sources, low carbon production and biodegradability, which doesn't impact on the performance and sleek design! My favourite is the cycling kit!
