Lewys Thomas -Athlete Ambassador
Have you always been into sport?
From a young age I’ve always been playing sport! From football, golf, tennis, rugby, cricket, the list goes on! I love the competition and the team atmosphere as well as generally keeping fit and having fun. I came very late to cycling, when just before university I decided to go out for a ride with my dad and he dropped me on every hill, so from then on, I was hooked and motivated to get better and better!
If you are interested in getting into cycling, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
I wish somebody had told me never to worry about what anyone else thinks and purely enjoy riding a bike. People become anxious about what they’re wearing, what bike they own, what their average speed is on strava etc. I would say concentrate on what makes you happy and why you started riding in the first place, which for me is being outdoors, exploring new places and experiencing all things cycling!
What are your goals?
My goals for this season are to earn enough points to move up racing categories here in the U.K as well as compete in WTRL events on Zwift for Loughborough Students Cycling Club. COVID permitting, I’d love to gain racing experience and see how far I can climb up the categories and put the winter training hours to good use!
Who inspires you?
My biggest inspirations are my parents. My mum is currently training for an Ironman and because the event was postponed last year, she has been training religiously for nearly 2 years now! Nothing will get in the way of completing a training session, and that level of dedication and commitment is something I strive for every day. My dad is a paramedic and works long, hard hours. Despite this, he is always available to support me with whatever I’m doing, whether that be bike maintenance or simply joining me on a long ride, he never says no!
Why work with Sundried?
I am really passionate about the environment and reducing the impact of global warming. This aligns with the work Sundried is doing to reduce waste and help reduce plastic pollution by offering activewear collections made from 100% recycled materials. I want to raise awareness of this and make people think about the choices they are making when purchasing sport clothing – considering not only the price tag and the brand of the product, but how the materials are sourced and how the process chain contributes to a zero waste, sustainable lifestyle.
