Katherine Spencer - Athlete Ambassador

Katherine is a runner who started competing in triathlons after having her two sons. She talks to Sundried about training and racing.

Have you always been into sport?

Sport has always been a huge part of my life. I used to play semi-professional football until I had my 2 boys and then changed to triathlon and running.

What made you decide to enter the world of triathlon?

I had always been good at running and cross-country and always loved cycling and swimming, so when I had my first child I entered the world as it was easier to fit the training in individually rather than trying to get to team sessions.

If you are interested in starting your journey into the world of triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.

What’s been your favourite race to date and why?

My favourite race has got to be Birmingham Triathlon at Sutton Park. I came 3rd but it was a more off road run and was just a fantastic event. It was the first triathlon that my husband brought both my children to.

And your proudest achievement?

That my boys get to see me compete and push myself to the limit.

Have you ever had any racing disasters?

Hever Castle triathlon was a disaster as I got too cold before the race and had a panic attack in the water. It took me 400m to remember how to do front crawl.

How do you overcome setbacks?

I was diagnosed with a heart condition in 2017. It threatened to stop me from doing any form of competitive exercise. It made me realise that I just had to stay calm and know that everything changes and something positive can come from every experience.

What advice do you wish you'd been given before you started competing?

You can do so much more than you realise. Have confidence in all you do.

What are your goals for 2021?

1. Acheieve sub 3.15 in the Manchester Marathon.
2. Compete in the London Triathlon.
3. Compete in the longest ever assault race.

Who do you take your inspiration from?

Dame Kelly Holmes, Paula Radcliff, Brownlee Brothers, Crissie Wellington.

What do you like about Sundried and what’s your favourite bit of our kit?

I love the design and feel of the Sundried clothing. The ethical and team feel is fantastic. I could live in the leggings and wear them for training and teaching Pilates and Yoga.
