Have you always been into sport?

I’ve always done some form of sport, I’ve played rugby since the age of 8-9 then joined a local cricket team at the age of 12-13 and played both rugby and cricket until around the age of 22.

I started doing some running around 19-20 starting with a 10K and slowly progressing to a half marathon, marathon, ultra marathon and then Ironman in 2018.

How did you first get into triathlon?

My father has always competed in endurance events, marathons, triathlons etc and I’ve always watched him. I began to lose weight when I was about 18-19 for a job that I had applied for to pass the fitness test, in all to date I have lost about 6-7 stone of weight. So me and a friend decided to sign up for a 10K run, and it went from there. I then did a half marathon and wanted something longer so completed Snowdon Marathon and again I wanted something longer. After watching my father do Ironman Wales 5 times I thought why not that and signed up for my first Ironman Wales in October of 2017 and then did 1 sprint and a couple of Olympic Triathlons in 2018 before completing Ironman Wales in the September of 2018.

If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.

What has been your favourite race to date and why?

For the fans and overall atmosphere it has to be Ironman Wales. It’s a long day but all day the support is unbelievable. There is just one constant party throughout the course all day, the support is really special.

In terms of views and the race course, Ironman Alcudia. The sun shinning all day, smooth roads, big mountains and a clear sea top race.

What is your proudest achievement?

To date it would be finishing Ironman Wales. I’ve finished it twice and was meant to go back for my third in 2020 but Covid put a stop to that. It’s a long day with a really challenging course.

Have you ever had any racing disasters?

I haven’t had any real racing disasters as such, I’ve set out races and got my nutrition or pacing wrong on the day and that makes for a long day.

How do you overcome setbacks?

I recently had Covid-19, luckily mildly but it did stop my training for 14 days. I find it best to accept that you can’t train, speak to more experienced athletes, take advice, forget about the sessions you’ve missed and move on. Don’t go chasing the missed sessions.

What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?

Consistency is key and trust the process. Training plans are in place to get you into the best shape in time for you race don’t panic.

What are your goals?

Short term goals would be hopefully to race this year and manage to get PB’s over a number of distances, Olympic 70.3 and the Ironman distance.

Long term find my limit there’s always races that go further.

Who inspires you?

Anyone who is willing to put their self in a uncomfortable position and train to reach a goal that they have set and see it through.
