Jack Wiltshire Athlete Ambassador

Sundried activewear athlete ambassador

Jack has some big goals for the 2020 season and is working hard to achieve them. He talks to Sundried about training and motivation.

Have you always been into sport ?

Yes, I have taken part in sport since I was around 12 or 13 years old. I started cycling competitively and fell in love with it, competing in many events locally in my home town of Colchester.

What made you decide to enter the world of triathlon?

I had been taking part in cycle competitions for around 6 years and didn’t find it challenging anymore and felt that I needed something to keep me interested in sport and that’s when I came across triathlon.

I have always been a very active person and when I saw how challenging triathlon could be, I was set. It was a struggle to start with trying to fit all three disciplines into a hectic school and work schedule, but I managed to fit everything in.

I did terribly at my first event but I knew it was going to be a challenge so I started working harder in training and I've seen a huge improvement.

What’s been your favourite race to date and why?

I don’t really have a favourite race as there have been many that I’ve loved. Unfortunately, due to being diagnosed with a health condition, it has been a struggle for me to compete at events and for the past year I haven’t competed at all. However, 2020 is a comeback year for me and I intend to fight through the season to battle for some great accomplishments.

How do you overcome setbacks?

I overcome setbacks by thinking about the people who are worse-off than me and who have a much harder challenge than me. They are such an inspiration that if I struggle at an event or struggle with training, I always think if others can do it then I can. Even if I come last, I know I've tried my best and that’s all I can do.

What advice do you wish you'd been given before you started competing?

Structuring your training around each individual event is key to achieving your best result.

What are your goals for 2020?

My 2020 goals are to compete at as many events as I can and fight through my condition to enable me to complete a full season of events.

Who do you take your inspiration from?

I take my inspiration from Lauren Steadman; she is truly an inspiration to me and her dedication to the sport is absolutely incredible. I watch events she takes part in with absolute amazement at how she has learned to change both gears with one hand. She is an absolute inspiration to me and a lot of other individuals within the sport.

What do you like about Sundried and what’s your favourite bit of our kit?

Sundried is an incredible brand that makes their clothing range from recycled materials. They are comfortable and long-lasting at a very affordable price. All the staff are very helpful and approachable with any issues or concerns I have.

My favourite bit of kit so far has to be the thermal winter cycle jersey I try to ride outside as much as I can in the winter and it certainly keeps me warm during my training and events during the winter months. I absolutely love Sundried and can't wait to see the cycling shoes when they arrive!
