Hollie Morgan - Athlete Ambassador
Have you always been into sport?
I trained as a dancer professionally, after starting from a young age. I dabbled with running occasionally and then found triathlon in my early 30’s. I’ve always been into exercise, fitness and nutrition of various kinds.
How did you first get into triathlon?
A family member and a few glasses of wine! It sounded like fun and so we booked a sprint triathlon.
If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.
What has been your favourite race to date and why?
My Ironman in Finland 2021 - I trained hard for 30 weeks not even knowing if we would be able to travel to the country. To my amazement, all the pieces fell into place at the last minute. The race was everything I wanted and more.
What is your proudest achievement?
Completing my Ironman and wanting more!
Have you ever had any racing disasters?
Oh yes, one half distance triathlon had a hilly, gravelly, gruelling bike ride in the rain. I lost my big gear halfway through and had to make it back on just the small ring. Luckily I made it!
How do you overcome setbacks?
Sheer stubbornness and determination. I’m very logical so following a plan step by step works for me. If you miss a day, you have to let it go. You can’t catch up, and you can’t let it upset the rest of your programme - that takes a lot more mental strength than you think.
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
Go slow to race fast. I thought being fast meant going fast when I first started and it quickly ended in injury. I found heart rate zone training and it changed my approach to training instantly. Then, stick to it. When you see others around you running faster, you must stick to your HR zone and if you trust it, you can reap major rewards.
What are your goals?
I want to keep going - more Ironman, more endurance challenges. Next I’m considering Lands End to John O Groats.
Who inspires you?
Lucy Charles-Barclay - I’m in awe of her and her achievements. Laura Kenny too - what a phenomenal athlete. Both incredible role models; strong, determined women.
Why work with Sundried?
I trained in Sundried this past year and love the quality and price point.
