David Brown Athlete Ambassador

David found his passion for triathlon after joining a local club and hasn't looked back since. He talks to Sundried about training and racing.

Have you always been into sport?

Yes, I played football until a few years ago when a knee injury got me into cycling. I then started running, joined a triathlon club, and the rest is history.

What made you decide to enter the world of triathlon?

It turned out I was quite good at cycling and running and really enjoy them. I then found the most amazing, supportive triathlon club that have helped me progress massively.

What’s been your favourite race to date and why?

I would have say Torbay Triathlon in September 2019. While still relatively new to triathlon I exceeded my expectations with a top ten finish overall and 4th in my age category. Being cheered on in a local race also gave it that extra excitement.

And your proudest achievement?

Winning Torbay Triathlon Club Senior Male Champion Award for achieving the quickest time in the club championships. This was achieved in my first year with the club, against some very highly talented athletes.

Have you ever had any racing disasters/your toughest race yet?

I did miss out on a podium place at Torbay Triathlon by 2 seconds after taking a wrong turn into the finish. While it was still my best race to date, the pain of those 2 seconds will drive me even more next year.

How do you overcome setbacks?

I use them to learn and as motivation. I look back at how far I’ve come and use it to drive me to reach my next set of goals.

What advice do you wish you'd been given before you started competing?

I wish I was advised to buy my kit from Sundried as it’s the best quality kit I’ve ever purchased!

What are your goals for 2020?

To qualify for the Team GB Sprint Duathlon Age Group team for the ETU European Championships and the WTU World Championships.

Who do you take your inspiration from?

Every single athlete at my triathlon club. They all inspire me, from the quickest to the slowest. Following them all on their own individual journeys and seeing them achieve their goals is great motivation to achieve mine.

What do you like about Sundried and what’s your favourite bit of our kit?

I love the quality of the products. I love how stylish it looks and how comfortable it feels. My favourite bit of kit has to be the men’s aero skinsuit. This is an absolute amazing bit of kit. The fact that Sundried use recycled bottles to make their kit was a huge factor in wanting to be an ambassador.
