Courtney Granger Athlete Ambassador
Courtney first got into cycling as a way to lose weight and soon discovered a love for it. She talks to Sundried about racing highs and lows.
Have you always been into sport?
I haven’t always been into sport; I hated it at school and would always try to get out of it. I then wanted to lose some weight and got into the gym which was quite quickly followed by picking up cycling which I fell in love with! And it seems to have gone from there.
How did you first get into triathlon?
To keep me motivated to keep cycling, I decided to sign up for Ride London in 2018. I like a challenge to keep me motivated and focused. This year my friend decided to attempt a triathlon as she swims and runs but didn’t cycle and asked me if I’d join her. However, I didn’t run or swim so it's definitely been a challenge but I’m enjoying the different training.
What’s been your best race to date?
I have only taken part in one race so far as I’m yet to complete my triathlon but it was a cyclo-cross race and I loved and hated it all at once! It was tough but such great fun and everyone encouraged each other.
And your proudest achievement?
My proudest moment so far I think has to be running my first 5km, even though to some that seems so easy. I was completing 'Couch to 5k' and went running with my friend who didn’t tell me the distance and once completed it was the best feeling.
Have you ever had any racing disasters/your toughest race yet?
I regularly take part in cycling sportives and the biggest disaster was my brother having an accident and us having to give up and patch him up in a bus stop in 30 degree heat and wait for help. It was meant to be my first 100 mile ride but sadly it had to wait util Ride London.
How do you overcome setbacks?
I am very tough on myself if I have a setback like an injury and get demotivated. But you have to pick yourself up again and get going to reach your goals!
What advice do you wish you'd been given before you started competing?
I was lucky to have a fab bit of advice before I started my first race. If it’s your first time at a certain race it’s always going to be a personal best!
What are your goals for 2019?
- Complete a sprint triathlon
- Complete Ride London in under 6 hrs
- Compete in two cyclo-cross races
Who do you take your inspiration from?
I’m inspired by the ladies I cycle with as they always encourage me! On Instagram I love following Lucy Charles and Emily Young.
What do you like about Sundried and what’s your favourite bit of our kit?
I am so excited to receive my Sundried cycling kit as I think the design is fab.
