Adam Habasinski - Athlete Ambassador
Have you always been into sport?
I’ve loved sport from an early age; rugby, cricket, golf, football, I’ve had a go at them all! But my biggest passion was being in the outdoors, it all started from mountain biking. Biking was such a big part of my childhood, always out in the woods with my friends. Over the last few years I have realised my love for running, and I just keep pushing to get faster!
How did you first get into triathlon?
I wanted to set myself a challenge and talked about doing a triathlon for ages, so one day whilst at my local bar my mates were saying, “you will never do a triathlon!”, so I booked Weymouth Ironman 70.3! I quickly signed up to numerous training events and started condition swimming, and I was hooked!
If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.
What has been your favourite race to date and why?
It has to be Weymouth Ironman 70.3, the swim with the sun rising, the cycle around the local area on closed roads, and the crowds cheering you on whilst running down Weymouth sea front!
What is your proudest achievement?
Completing the Weymouth Ironman 70.3.
Have you ever had any racing disasters?
I have been quite lucky and not had too many. The one that stands out is a puncture during Darlington Duathlon, I was only about a mile in to the bike section, coming down a hill I felt my rear tyre slowly go down! In that moment, I wish I had practised doing some changes on my road bike! After fixing it, I tried to push hard on the bike, this came back to haunt me on the second run when I was cramping badly!
How do you overcome setbacks?
I have had a couple of ankle injuries in the past couple of years, I’ve had to learn how to be patient! I now know to listen to my body and use the opportunity to train another body part, or build another skill.
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
I wish I’d been told not to worry what other people think, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
What are your goals?
My goals are to stay fit and healthy, be competitive in some running events, and complete some more triathlons and duathlons. Most of all, to just enjoy getting out and exercising, be it on the bike, running or swimming.
Who inspires you?
There are a number of athletes out there who inspire me. The main inspiration’s are the ones who compete at a high standard whilst having a family and work, who are still able to fit the training in, doing all this and keeping everyone happy.
