Neil has always been into sport, so becoming a personal trainer was a natural move for him. He talks to Sundried about motivation and living with coeliac disease.
Tell us about your journey to fitness. Where did it all start?
My journey to fitness started at an early age, I've always been really into sport but mostly football. I enjoy both watching and playing sport. I was always into PE at school and always love to win and be successful.
What are your training goals now?
My training goals at the moment are to be as lean and fit as possible and to be in the best shape of my life for life.
Tell us one unusual fact we wouldn't know about you.
A fact about me is that I'm completely gluten-free due to having coeliac disease.
What advice do you wish you'd been given before you started out?
The advice I wish I was given was to remember that working in the fitness industry isn't easy and there will be ups and downs but you need to be hard working and have the right attitude to overcome anything.
Do you follow a specific nutrition plan? If so, what/when do you eat?
No not really, I certainly don't agree with diets. I eat gluten-free due to my food intolerance and enjoy a balanced diet.
What do you do to keep your clients motivated?
To keep clients motivated I think it's important to realise why they're there. They're human beings and they are looking for help; as a trainer, I need to be there for them all the time not just during their gym sessions as they will have other challenges to overcome in their life.
How do you keep your fitness knowledge up to date?
I keep my fitness knowledge up to date by interacting with trainers all over the world and exchanging views and opinions with them in addition to research I do off my own back.
What are your top 3 trainer tips?
- Never quit if you are enjoying it as there will be rough times mixed with the good.
- Always show your clients you're enthusiastic about your work.
- Enjoy everything you do; this job is a privilege and we get to work with some amazing clients.
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life I'd have to be naughty and say a cheese and tomato pizza.
Why work with Sundried?
Sundried is a great company with some fantastic pieces of clothing great for your workouts.
