Fabio practises the unusual but very interesting sport of orienteering. He talks to Sundried about life as an athlete.
Tell us about your journey to fitness? Where did it all start?
I started when I was 10 years old, firstly with climbing, then with orienteering and running.
What are your training goals now?
At the moment my main goal is to go to the Junior World Orienteering Championships 2018 in Hungary.
Tell us one unusual fact we wouldn’t know about you:
Orienteering is no good if I have clean clothes at the end!
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
I wish I'd had more confidence in myself.
Do you follow a specific nutrition plan? If so, what/when do you eat?
At the moment no, I eat everything in moderation.
Do you have any top tips to keep motivated?
My top tips is: "You can do anything you put your mind to."
Talk us through your training regime.
I usually train every day and sometimes twice a day. My training consists of mainly running, but for orienteering I also practice running in the woods following a map. As with a lot of sports, winter isn't a good month for training, so in winter I can't train as much as I wish I could.
How do you keep your fitness knowledge up to date?
I focus on what my coach is telling me as well as keeping an eye on the competition.
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
It would have to be something sweet like chocolate.
