Barry is an athlete who specialises in Mountain Biking. He talks to Sundried about training and racing.

Have you always been into sport?

Yes ever since I could move I have been into sport. I enjoyed gymnastics and basketball when I was younger then moved into football and athletics, now I enjoy mountain biking.

How did you first get into Mountain biking?

I got into mountain biking through the cycle to work scheme, I got a bike and fell in love with it straight away, then my competitive side followed and I began to race.

If you are interested in getting into cycling, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.

What has been your favourite race to date and why?

I competed at conquer the cliff at Aberystwyth in Wales, they hold a biking festival and dropping in over the finish line in front of 1500 people watching felt amazing.

What is your proudest achievement?

Being part of the RNRMCA team. My military roots are a proud part of my life and being able to represent the Navy is a good feeling.

Have you ever had any racing disasters?

I have had a few but breaking two ribs on a race day is up there. I managed to carry on and complete my runs but hiccups for the next 2 weeks made me cry.

How do you overcome setbacks?

Positivity. I reflect on the good and this focus allows me to overcome the negative. Plus having good pals helps.

What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?

Enjoy learning the sport and speak to as many people as possible. 99% of mountain bikers are amazing people who will help you more than you can imagine.

What are your goals?

To compete at national level events and finish as high in category as possible whilst showing continuous improvement.

Who inspires you?

It’s cheesy but true, my children inspire me. If they see me working hard to achieve my goals then hopefully that will rub off on them

Why work with Sundried?

I was looking into a few clothing brands as I was desperate for kit. When reading about Sundried I instantly was impressed at how the clothes are made and once I felt the quality I knew I had found where I would be getting my cycling clothing from.
