Tonight the unveiling of the first workout to find the fittest on the earth will be revealed. The Crossfit Games sponsored by Reebok is the premier test of fitness and begins with a 5 week warm-up, The Open. Every week for 5 weeks a new workout is released on Thursday which all competing athletes must complete.
27,2661 athletes aged 13-84 entered their scores last year with a whopping 9,400 of 13,000 affiliates worldwide hosting the weekly events in 2015. Athletes have from Thursday through to Monday to complete their workout and submit their score, by either competing at a registered affiliate or recording and uploading the proof of their workout.
You don’t have to be the fittest to take part, there will be a scaled version of each week's workout designed to be accessible to the vast majority of athletes, with reduced loading or less challenging movements.
Russel Olofson, Certified CrossFit Level 3 Trainer says: “You may have to scale the open, you may not be able to finish a workout. This is what is beautiful. It is the world's largest benchmark where everyone is a part of your journey. Your scores will be forever logged on the site for you to go back and look at, smile at, and be proud of. It's about committing to your self-improvement and taking pride in that journey”.
Anyone can sign up for $20 here: https://games.crossfit.com/cf/login?returnTo=%2Fregister-athlete&flow=games
Complete the workouts under the watchful eye of a trainer at an affiliate gym (box) or recording video proof of your entry. Enter your scores and you will be ranked in relation to your peers in your age division, competition region, state and country.
The eagerly awaited live announcement is due at 5pm Pacific time and will showcase the fittest US favourites, Emily Abbot, who came eighth in last years games vs Chyna Cho who took sixth place, completing the workout live on the website, in front of an audience and head to head!
UK Crossfitters will, no doubt, be waiting up until 1AM to see their heroes performing this year's first challenge.
Every previous gruelling open routine can be viewed online, however Crossfit promise to make 16.1 a challenge that cannot be predicted and a true test of fitness. You can check the scores of any of the competitors and follow our UK entrants here:
