5 Ways To Get Fit This Summer
Have you been promising yourself for years that you'll finally get fit this summer? Let us help you! We give you 5 easy ways to get fit so that you can feel your best and improve your health.
1. Running
Running is at the top of our list because it is free, you don't have to already be fit to get started, and all you need to do is lace up those running shoes and get out the door! Of course, we know it isn't really that easy but it is certainly accessible and is a great place to start as you don't need any equipment or even a gym membership.
If you're new to exercise or haven't worked out in a while, start slowly and do a combination of jogging and walking. Build yourself up gradually and set small, achievable goals such as running for 30 seconds then walking for a minute and repeating. Before you know it, you'll be running confidently and getting fit!
2. Swimming
Swimming is a way of getting fit that often gets overlooked, especially as a surprising number of adults don't know how to swim properly. It can seem like a lot of effort getting to the pool, getting changed, and then drying off and changing afterwards.
However, swimming is a great full body workout which will improve your cardiovascular fitness as well as challenging your muscles and will change your physique before you know it. Swimming is a great summer activity and is something you can get the whole family involved in.Â
3. Cycling
Cycling may seem like a daunting sport at first due to all the expertise and technical equipment that pros use, however cycling is the perfect summer sport for a lot of reasons. It'll get you out into the fresh air but won't make you overheat like running can. Instead, the inevitable headwind will keep you somewhat cool and you'll find that exploring your local area by bike can be a lot of fun. You won't be as obviously out of breath as you get when running so it can be easier to sustain for longer periods if you're not as fit.Â
4. Group Exercise
Group exercise is one of those things that needs the motto "don't knock it 'til you've tried it" applied to it. Many people will avoid group exercise classes for a number of reasons, either because they feel too embarrassed or think they're not fit enough to keep up or simply because the classes can be overwhelming.
However, being able to go into a room in the gym and let a professional lead your exercise for an hour can be a great thing. It means that if you're feeling lazy or unmotivated, you don't have to stay on top of what you're going to be doing and instead just copy the instructor. Group exercise can also be a great way to make new friends and improve motivation through spending time with like-minded people.Â
5. CrossFit
CrossFit is a little less straight forward as it can involve some complex techniques and movements, however it is a very inclusive community and everyone is welcome, no matter your age, shape, size, or ability. Once you get started, you'll wonder why you didn't start sooner! CrossFit is an incredible way of getting very fit very fast due to its high intensity.
