Have you always been into sport?

I have always been into sport from a young age. As I grew up I participated in lots of sporting activities but it wasn't until I joined the military that I got into endurance type events. In the beginning I did a half marathon for the sole purpose of raising money for a charity my wife worked for at the time. That was in 2011 and from then on I've tried to do at least one main event a year.

How did you first get into triathlon?

I came into triathlon events just through wanting to train more. I joined a team where the training and support was good and ended up saying yes mainly to duathlons at the start as my swimming isn't good! My last tri event was run, bike and paddle in a kayak so I still avoid swimming!

If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.

What has been your favourite race to date and why?

My favourite race has to be the Devizes to Westminster canoe race. Throughout training my partner and myself paddled well together but come race day everything that could go wrong went wrong. We even walked the last part of the race with the full kit as we missed the tide time at Teddington lock which ended up being over a marathon distance. It's my favourite race because of the determination my partner and I showed to get to the end.

What is your proudest achievement?

Other than my son, my proudest achievement at the moment is probably the race mentioned above.

Have you ever had any racing disasters?

Again I refer back to The Devizes to Westminster race for race disasters! We got stuck in a weir, my partner passed out and we capsized and obviously the walk at the end amongst many other small disasters has to be the worst but best to overcome.

How do you overcome setbacks?

The best way to overcome setbacks in my opinion is to be prepared in the first place. And train your mind to be strong as well as your body.

What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?

The advice I wish I was given more of when setting out would have been about nutrition and diet. It's such a big part of training and events and I'm still always learning about the best foods to eat and when to eat them.

What are your goals?

My goals this year are to get a better time on the Scotland Coast to Coast in September.

Who inspires you?

I can't really say any one individual inspires me. I always try to just be a better version of myself. People with disabilities and older people that do amazing things always remind me of how fortunate I am.

Why work with Sundried?

I wanted to work with Sundried as their kit seems to be hard wearing and I really like the ethics they have. The fact that they have a growing range of clothes that is made from recycled materials is amazing and definitely the kind of clothes I want to be wearing.
