Shock Defeat For Brownlee Brothers At 2018 Commonwealth Games
The Brownlee brothers faced a shock defeat in the 2018 Commonwealth Games triathlon race as Scotland's Marc Austin held on for the bronze and South Africa's Henri Schoeman put in a stellar performance to clinch the gold. This is the first time a British triathlete has beaten both Brownlee brothers in a major triathlon race in 10 years.
It may be a shock for neither of the Brownlee brothers to reach the podium in such a major race, but they'll still have a chance to make up for it in Saturday's mixed relay team race.
It is also important to note that at this point, the Brownlee brothers have been racing in longer distance triathlons, with Alistair Brownlee achieving a phenomenal win after a stunning performance at Ironman 70.3 Dubai in February. This race was a sprint triathlon and so currently not the brothers' strongest race. Both brothers have also been complaining of leg injuries hampering their training, with wet conditions on race day leaving them struggling to perform at their best.
The final result saw Alistair finish in 10th position with Jonny finishing 7th. It was a tough race, though, with stiff competition, as Alistair finished only one minute and six seconds behind the winner.
