Garmin announces cycling updates at Interbike
Garmin announce cycling updates for the Edge 520, Edge 820, Edge 1000 and Forerunner 735XT.
The new update features the following:
New LiveTrack Auto Start – Garmin is excited to announce a new auto start on Garmin Connect Mobile for LiveTrack and Group Track. This new feature will provide users the ability to seamlessly use these features without needing to pull out their compatible smartphones before a ride. With auto start it is now easier than ever for users to be tracked by friends, family and fellow riders, helping them get home safely.
Strava Beacon – Garmin users who are also Strava Premium members will soon be able to use Beacon, the social network’s new safety feature, with their automatic Garmin LiveTrack sessions. Beacon allows athletes to share their location information in real-time with up to three safety contacts, offering peace of mind for the athlete as well as for their friends and family.
Shimano Di2 – Garmin and Shimano are working to further integrate support between Garmin Edge devices and the Shimano Di2 electronic shifting systems. Garmin will be extending the Edge support for Di2 Dura-Ace top buttons to control ANT+ bike lights, including the Varia smart bike lights, through their Di2 systems.
Trek – Cyclists can now use their compatible Edge device to automatically control Bontrager’s Transmitr line of ANT+ lights. Bontrager Flare RT, Ion 350 RT and Ion 700 RT lights will turn on automatically with the Edge and the ambient light sensor in the Edge 820 and Edge 1000 will set the appropriate lighting configuration for the day or night.
