Have you always been into sport?

Yes, my parents put me in every sport they could when I was younger because I had so much energy.

How did you first get into triathlon?

My best childhood friend joined a triathlon club at her school and asked me if I wanted to try as well since I did so many other sports.

If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.

What has been your favourite race to date and why?

Probably 2019 Collegiate Club Nationals (in the US) because of the energy present at the race. All the club triathlon teams in University at the same race, cheering on their teammates, and aiming for national titles. It was an experience that I do not think can ever be matched.

What is your proudest achievement?

Becoming president of the triathlon club at my university in the 2020-21 school year and keeping it alive during Covid.

Have you ever had any racing disasters?

In high school, I ran in the wrong cross country race. All my coaches and teammates were looking for me frantically, because our race was about to start, but then they heard my name announced for finishing a different race category. Apparently, there were multiple schools named "Foothill" and the man at the gate told me the wrong race.

How do you overcome setbacks?

Reflect, reset and try to manage expectations. These past two years have all been about overcoming things being out of one's control. This past year, whilst my main focus was getting to the World Champs, I entered lots of UK races so I would never feel that all my training had been for nothing, in case the World Champs did not happen.

What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?

Just enjoy each moment of the sport, each practice, each race, your teammates, because there's no way to predict the future and you may not have the same opportunities again. Have fun. 

What are your goals?

My first goal is to become pain-free. I have struggled with various injuries for a few years now and am allowing myself to rest and heal right now. Once I am pain free, my goal is to earn my elite triathlon license in the US. 

Who inspires you?

No one person inspires me. It is a combination of everyone in the sport, pushing themselves to and past their "limits" that inspires me to want to do the same. If I had to name someone, it would be Sika Henry, the first black female pro triathlete in America. She has taken a huge step for our sport towards equality and has shown what is possible with perseverance, even through adversity and inequality.

I just graduated with a bachelor of science degree in Environmental Science and Management from UC Davis in California (go ags!). From this, you can already tell that the environment is another passion of mine. Honestly, the environment pairs nicely with triathlon because I spend so much of my free time training in the "environment". I completed a lot of research to find a cycling apparel brand that not only looks and feels good and performs the way I need it to, but is also sustainable. Sundried checks all of these boxes. My ideals align with the company's and I would like to help more people live more sustainably and waste less in whichever way they can, including training gear.
