Have you always been into sport?
I've always been very active from a young age, being involved with all kinds of sports clubs and activities. Swimming was my best sport as a kid but running took over when I was a teenager.
How did you first get into triathlon?
Triathlon is very new to me. I wanted to get back into swimming and also continue running. Once I'd invested in a bike and I found myself comfortable with my university cycling team, it only made sense to try out triathlon.
What has been your favourite race to date and why?
I've yet to race a full on competitive race. I've struggled with a few injuries and not been in the right condition to really give any race my all. My favourite race I've done has got to be the llangollen 50km. This race was the hardest challenge I've ever faced, especially as I'd not been able to run the few months leading up to it. I ran/walked the race with near to no training but still managed to complete the incredibly inclined route in respectable time.
What is your proudest achievement?
The 50km race has got to be my proudest achievement as I rased money for the charity 'young minds' which is a charity that's close to my heart.
Have you ever had any racing disasters?
Luckily I'm yet to experience any race disaster, I've only had times of dehydration.
How do you overcome setbacks?
Having had all the possible running injuries known to man, I've had to spend months without running to get over these. To help me though these injuries I find it's good to find a replacement sport. Swimming being a low impact sport is always great to fall back on. I also may attend the gym more regularly to compensate.
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
All my advice I tend to have either found on social media or through educational videos on YouTube. The amount you can learn from just watching videos online is amazing. These learnings can be put straight into practice and it's made me the athlete I am today.
What are your goals?
My primary goals as of now is to compete for my university and be competitive towards the best youth in the country.
Who inspires you?
I try to inspire and motivate myself to be the best possible athlete I can be. No feeling is better than the satisfaction of completing a successful training session. The dedication and commitment I put into my training is rewarding enough to keep me motivated at all times.
