How did you first get into triathlon?

My intro to triathlon was a result of too many coffees during post first marathon euphoria! I thought 'what next?' – I couldn’t really swim and didn’t have a bike but seemed like a great challenge!

If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.

What has been your favourite race to date and why?

Favourite race was a marathon in the Arctic. An astonishing experience. Tough (as running in crampons!) but so beautiful.

What is your proudest achievement?

I honestly don’t think there is one particular one. I’m proud to have done a number of things that people didn’t think I was capable of i.e Ultra running, Channel Relay Swim, Ironman. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to test my body and mind – taking things to the limit. I used to be quite sedentary and ate too many cakes – so I’m probably proudest of the fact I made the decision to change my life and embrace sport.

Have you ever had any racing disasters?

I drove 8 hours for a qualifying race. 100m into the swim, my goggles snapped off my face. I had a fleeting moment of 'its over' before I thought – no chance! I didn’t come all this way to stop now! So I swam with my eyes closed. I qualified that day – probably due to the added adrenaline!

How do you overcome setbacks?

The best way to overcome setbacks is to find way around them. Work with what you have. Ie if you have a foot injury – work on your upper body strength. Obstacles are there to test the mind as well as the body – but are almost always surmountable!

What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?

I have had amazing advice from the very start. Fellow athletes, coaches, friends. There is very little I would change – other than I wish I'd started sooner!

What are your goals?

Hopeful of another GB Age Group race later this year. Then its full focus to Ironman again, with a view to qualifying for World Championships. And maybe to inspire even one other person to believe that if I can do this, they can too! Anything is Possible!

Who inspires you?

I am inspired by everyone who chooses to go out in all weathers and train. Who has a goal and focuses to achieve that. Cycling, running and triathlon is full of inspirational people – and I’m particularly in awe of people who overcome adversities to make it happen.
