Have you always been into sport?
I was one of those students who hated running & would do anything to be excused including many ‘sick notes’. One day in my late 20’s I was gifted a pair of running trainers on the condition I would try to become a runner. I kept them in the box for two years but knew I had to keep my word. I believe anything you hate you have to learn to love until it becomes a part of you. Now I cannot go a day without sports.
How did you first get into triathlon?
I have completed many marathons & it was a natural progression. I will be participating in my first Ironman in August 2021.
What has been your favourite race to date and why?
Tokyo marathon 2019. I completed this marathon against all odds with a foot injury. It was a very prominent marathon for me as I overcame so many obstacles. It was also a special marathon as I received my Abbott six star award.
What is your proudest achievement?
My proudest achievement would be overcoming the most severe weather to date in the Boston marathon 2018. It took razor sharp focus to switch off from the elements & achieve.
Have you ever had any racing disasters?
I would say that would have to be my lost luggage from Boston to London. It had all my marathon kit in for the London Marathon which was in a few days including my trainers. I had no time to break in a new pair & had to wear an old pair instead.
How do you overcome setbacks?
With faith, passion & purpose. I believe you can overcome any setbacks with a positive mindset.
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
Sprinting is essential!
What are your goals?
My goal is to keep achieving in order to elevate & give back to others. I believe in always giving back to the world.
Who inspires you?
Bobbi Gibb is my biggest sporting inspiration. Bobbi Gibb was the first female to run a marathon in Boston 1966. Without her courage there may not have been a window of opportunity for women to participate in future marathons. I was delighted to meet her in person with a one to one conversation. Her advice will stay with me forever.
