Have you always been into sport?
Pretty much yes, certainly all the way through school, university and it was integral to my time in the Army.
How did you first get into triathlon?
The sport was developing during my teens; I was fortunate to live in the tropics at that time and it became a natural extension of my running training.
What has been your favourite race to date and why?
Travelling to the Gold Coast for the World Sprint Triathlon championships.
What is your proudest achievement?
As an athlete, getting selected for the GB Age Group teams, as a coach, seeing those I work with achieve their triathlon goals - for example finishing their first Iron distance event or getting selected for a GB age-group team themselves.
Have you ever had any racing disasters?
Not really - got beaten up a bit and lost my goggles during the swim leg of the World Aquathlon championships in Spain in 2019.
How do you overcome setbacks?
Really focus on the positives; in every situation there is bound to be something positive that can you exploit and take the opportunity to learn from the mistakes. Remember you you started your sport - it's about enjoying it.
What are your goals?
To stay part of the GB Age Group teams for as long as possible (whether that's for Triathlon or Aquathlon); I'd like to qualify for a cross-triathlon event as well.
Who inspires you?
My son - who has played 3 sports (cricket, badminton and golf) at representative level, including playing College golf in the US; whilst being competitive he stays fit and healthy through enjoying his sport.
