Have you always been into sport?
Yes, I took to sport at a young age playing hockey with the open age team from 13 and found it gave me plenty to do and a purpose. I was lucky enough to represent different county levels as I moved through school, college and university. My love of sport and fitness lead me to studying Sports Rehabilitation at Uni and a career in sport, working pitch side in Rugby League. I continued to play hockey and still do, building in running and cycling into the summer to keep up the love and fitness.
How did you first get into triathlon?
My first triathlon was a birthday gift from a great friend. I was very nervous not wanting to let her down. I trained hard and loved the preparation sessions. Race day was brilliant, armed in my Sundried Trisuit my only aim was to finish. I actually finished 26/75! I'm not built like the typical endurance athlete but if anything it makes me more determined. I loved every element of the race and the sense of achievement crossing the finish line.
What has been your favourite race to date and why?
North West triathlon has been my favourite, I enjoyed the heated swimming pool and a great crowd to cheer you on on the run section.
What is your proudest achievement?
Working for New Zealand Rugby league team in the 4 nations.
Have you ever had any racing disasters?
I once finished a 10K run vomiting over the line, wasn't the prettiest finish and it was caught on camera!
How do you overcome setbacks?
I am very lucky to have a fantastic family and friends to help overcome setbacks. I'm naturally a competitive person and can be hard on myself. I always remind myself that you can only do your best. I only take part for myself so must just enjoy it.
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
Look after your knees! Mine are creaking far too much for a 34 year old!
What are your goals?
Keep playing, running, cycling and generally taking part in sport for as long as I can.
Who inspires you?
I don't have any one person in particular but anyone who is having ago. I love that sport is open to all!
Why work with Sundried?
The kit is good quality and I like the fact the sizes give you options. I struggled to find cycling/trisuit kit that suited me - not the typical build. I feel confident and comfortable wearing my Sundried gear and quick to tell others about it.
