Have you always been into sport?

Yes, from an early age I have enjoyed success in range of sports including athletics, cross country running and football. I’ve always been willing to give any sport a try.

How did you first get into triathlon?

Roughly two years ago I was looking for a new challenge and something that I could really push myself in….that something was triathlon!

If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.

What has been your favourite race to date and why?

My first triathlon was a super sprint distance in the Lake district. I came out of the water second and jumped on my bike determined to chase down first place however, I managed to get lost on the bike route and do an extra ten miles before finding my way back to transition! Most of the race had already finished however I still completed the run route and by this point I already knew I loved this sport and couldn’t wait to sign up to my next race.

    What is your proudest achievement?

Finding out I had been selected for the GB Age Group Team for the European Championships 2021.

Have you ever had any racing disasters?

Many! Mainly involving bike routes! One race I ended up carrying my bike over a style in a field.

    How do you overcome setbacks?

Take the learning from them. Injury is perhaps the hardest and most frustrating but you can use this time to develop in other areas like mental strength or maybe even just seeing friends and family more.

What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?

Learn the importance of rest! I find it very difficult to have rest days and not train hard in every session but your body needs these down periods so you can perform at your best, get the most out of your intense sessions and avoid injuries.

    What are your goals?

After competing in my first European Championships this September I hope to qualify for the following year and look to compete at the World Championships the year after.

    Who inspires you?

My brother Gerard. We are very close in age and both into our sports. We are both extremely competitive and often go out running and cycling together. I have to continuously work hard and train to make sure I can keep up with him especially as he is 6ft 3 and has the stride length of a cheetah!

    Why work with Sundried?

Many people think that one person cannot make a difference, but imagine if we all chose to buy clothes from an ethical company like Sundried that does not exploit its workforce, produce harmful products or cause damage to the environment.

Have you always been into sport?

I have always been involved in sport and being active from a young age. Growing up I tried lots of different sports, such as Athletics, Swimming, Gymnastics and Dance. I then focused on Dance from about the age of 12 and went on to complete a degree in contemporary dance.

How did you first get into triathlon?

I started running to keep me fit for dance and grew to love it. I started to pick up a few injuries, so saw this as a good chance to mix up my training and entered a local triathlon. I loved the buzz of race day and found myself signing up to more and more events.

If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.

What has been your favourite race to date and why?

Swansea Sprint Triathlon - I've done this event twice as it's in my home town. The atmosphere and support is always amazing and you see so many different levels of competitors, which makes it really special. This is also the first triathlon that myself and my Dad both competed in.

    What is your proudest achievement?

Qualifying for the GB age group team.

Have you ever had any racing disasters?

I was once chatting away at the start of a race not fully paying attention to the briefing. I ended up swimming towards the wrong buoy and then running into the middle distance transition area when I was doing the sprint distance. Moral of the story - even if you know the event and you bump into a friend you haven't seen for a while, listen to the briefing!

    How do you overcome setbacks?

I think the main thing I try to do is take a step back, look at the bigger picture and remember none of the hard work you have put in is ever wasted.

What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?

Enjoy it! Ask questions and test all your kit/nutrition before race day! Also, if you can afford a coach then this is a game changer.

    What are your goals?

I would love to podium at some age group events one day, but my main goal is to continue to enjoy training/racing and remain healthy and injury free.

    Who inspires you?

My Dad, who picked up triathlon in his 60s and is still competing at 70.

    Why work with Sundried?

I love the quality, performance and look of the kit. I also love the ethos Sundried have with their focus on being environmentally friendly.

Have you always been into sport?

I have always enjoyed being active, as a kid I did martial arts before getting into swimming as a teenager and developing my love for the water.

How did you first get into free diving?

Living in Menorca, Spain in my early 20s. I was given an old pair of long free diving fins by a friend and bought a speargun and tried to catch some dinner. This was my first intro into the sport, I quickly realised that in order to get better at catching fish I needed to get better at freediving.

If you're interested in starting your own fitness journey, Sundried's Activewear is suitable for people of all abilities.

What has been your favourite dive to date and why?

Probably my first world championship dive in Nice, France 2012. It was such an honour to be chosen for the UK team. It was a huge event with 200 athletes and a lot of media, I achieved a competition PB which I was very proud of.

    What is your proudest achievement?

Representing my country was a huge achievement for me also becoming the deepest diver in the UK and one of very few worldwide to dive deeper than 100m, a culmination of many years of hard work.

Have you ever had any diving disasters?

Thankfully no! Flooding an underwater camera is about a disastrous as it gets.

    How do you overcome setbacks?

I think you have to look at setbacks in a very stoic way, let the emotion and disappointment die down then look at it again with fresh eyes. There is always a cause, its just a mater of finding that cause and then finding a way to train so it docent happen again. An outside perspective is always useful so speaking to peers or getting a coach can be invaluable.

What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?

To enjoy the process. If you learn to enjoy this then it's never a struggle to get up and train what you love.

    What are your goals?

Over the next year I want to increase my depth PBs and see how close I can get to a world record one day!

    Who inspires you?

Anyone who puts in the work day after day, people who might not necessarily be born the best at something but through sheer tenacity and hard work rise to the top.

    Why work with Sundried?

Sundried’s Eco Charge and Eco Core range really interested me. My sport is at the forefront of the environmental crisis and I see the effects all over the world wherever I compete. If I can do anything to raise awareness I feel its my responsibility to do so and Sundried echo those sentiments.

Have you always been into sport?

I started in sport at a very young age as a track runner. Moving up the the distances from 800m to marathon running then in 2015 I decided to give triathlon a go and I’ve never looked back.

How did you first get into triathlon?

I have always been a fan of triathlon but was never the best swimmer so didn’t really have the guts to give it a go. A friend talked me into go along to my local tri club swim session and with their support and coaching I have developed my swimming and confidence in the water.

If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.

What has been your favourite race to date and why?

I have been lucky enough to race some amazing races but my favourite is probably 70.3 Dubai. I have raced it twice now and would love to go back a third time.

    What is your proudest achievement?

I am very proud of all my achievements but probably the one I’m most proud of is qualifying and competing in my first age group world Duathlon championships just 1 year after starting out in the sport.

    How do you overcome setbacks?

As an athlete you have many ups and downs and I think the best way to cope with the downs is take a step back and remember why we do sport because we love it.

What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?

One thing I wish I'd been told when starting out is to be patient, Rome wasn't built in a day.

    What are your goals?

My goals going forward are to get back to a good level of fitness this winter and hopefully get back on the podium again in a few races next year.

    Why work with Sundried?

Sundried is a stylish and affordable brand that offers comfortable and breathable kit.

Have you always been into sport?

I trained as a dancer professionally, after starting from a young age. I dabbled with running occasionally and then found triathlon in my early 30’s. I’ve always been into exercise, fitness and nutrition of various kinds.

How did you first get into triathlon?

A family member and a few glasses of wine! It sounded like fun and so we booked a sprint triathlon.

If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.

What has been your favourite race to date and why?

My Ironman in Finland 2021 - I trained hard for 30 weeks not even knowing if we would be able to travel to the country. To my amazement, all the pieces fell into place at the last minute. The race was everything I wanted and more.

    What is your proudest achievement?

Completing my Ironman and wanting more!

Have you ever had any racing disasters?

Oh yes, one half distance triathlon had a hilly, gravelly, gruelling bike ride in the rain. I lost my big gear halfway through and had to make it back on just the small ring. Luckily I made it!

    How do you overcome setbacks?

Sheer stubbornness and determination. I’m very logical so following a plan step by step works for me. If you miss a day, you have to let it go. You can’t catch up, and you can’t let it upset the rest of your programme - that takes a lot more mental strength than you think.

What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?

Go slow to race fast. I thought being fast meant going fast when I first started and it quickly ended in injury. I found heart rate zone training and it changed my approach to training instantly. Then, stick to it. When you see others around you running faster, you must stick to your HR zone and if you trust it, you can reap major rewards.

    What are your goals?

I want to keep going - more Ironman, more endurance challenges. Next I’m considering Lands End to John O Groats.

    Who inspires you?

Lucy Charles-Barclay - I’m in awe of her and her achievements. Laura Kenny too - what a phenomenal athlete. Both incredible role models; strong, determined women.

    Why work with Sundried?

I trained in Sundried this past year and love the quality and price point.
