Have you always been into sport?

NO!!!  In school, I absolutely hated running in any shape or form and was useless at it all! I didn't understand why people would do it to themselves as it just seemed to be so painful and horrible! 

I did have a fondness for cycling but purely as a slow pootler and I always loved the water but mainly for being on it rather than swimming.

How did you first get into triathlon?

One night I got drunk with a friend and she persuaded me to enter a triathlon she was doing at Eton Dorney.  I couldn't swim front crawl at all and it was an open water swim...I only went for the super sprint as I was petrified! Alcohol gives you courage... until the next day!

I managed to complete it and actually fell in love with it and from that point on, I never stopped.

If you are interested in getting into Triathlon, Sundried's kit is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned athletes. We have both men's and women's options available.

What has been your favourite race to date and why?

This is a tough one as I have so many races I've loved for different reasons. I think one of the grandest things I took part in was the Mont Blanc 23KM run in Chamonix...just wow... that's all I can say…the scenery and grandeur was just phenomenal!  And the race was hard!!!

What is your proudest achievement?

Without a doubt The Lakesman which was my very first Full Iron Distance Triathlon... the most amazing thing I've ever achieved! Crossing that finish line will stay with me forever and I can relive the feeling every time I think about it.

Have you ever had any racing disasters?

Oh yes!  Immortal Stourhead 70.3... a disaster from start to finish. Freezing cold swim, nutritional errors on the bike and bonking and then literally dragging myself around the run... just awful! I did finish but I have no idea how!

How do you overcome setbacks?

Learn from your mistakes, put it down to experience. Move on and keep on doing what you do.

What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?

Control the controllable and only try to better yourself without comparing to others.

What are your goals?

I want to be faster and try and qualify to GB Age group in Triathlon. I may need to be in the aged 70 category before I get a chance at that!

Who inspires you?

The everyday person who actually realises they can achieve anything they put their mind to. Some people are just amazing and yet they have no idea!
