Have you always been into sport?
Yes, I have always loved sports. I was the kid at school that actually enjoyed cross county running.
How did you first get into triathlon?
A poster for a race was sent to the swimming pool I was lifeguarding at and some colleagues encouraged me to try it.
What has been your favourite race to date and why?
My first marathon: Sydney 2010. Good weather and well prepared, I secretly wanted to get under 3 hours and as I came around the final corner in front of the Opera House the clock ticked over 3. I was gutted. Then as I checked my watch I realised I had started in the second wave so had achieved 2:58:59
What is your proudest achievement?
Finishing 70.3 Mallorca in 2016. There was the end of a storm passing so windy & very wet. I was stung by jellyfish during the swim so completed the race with a swollen arm and got very cold on the bike leg.
Have you ever had any racing disasters?
I have been caught out by water temperature in a couple of triathlons and really struggled to control my bike as I was shivering so much. (I don’t have much natural insulation!) I had to pull out of one after 10 miles of cycling as I just couldn’t warm up.
How do you overcome setbacks?
With a positive mindset! I have had two big injuries building up towards big events and I still completed both. The injuries actually took the pressure off that I put on myself to perform so I could relax and enjoy the events much more.
What advice do you wish you'd been given when you first started out?
Enjoy It! I often like to push myself and am so focused on competing that I forget to enjoy the experience.
What are your goals?
To keep pushing my limits. I used to think a marathon was a ridiculous idea but I have now run 6 and 3 double marathons.
Who inspires you?
Watching elite level athletes in any sport as they make it look so easy! Also seeing my children grow as I want to be a positive role model for them
