From their beginnings 18 years ago, the Clacton Triathlon has supported the Brian & Spine Foundation raising almost £80,000 to help fund research into brain and spine conditions and injuries. Initially, this choice was due to the misfortune of two members of Clacton Swimming Club, an organisation to which the organisers are closely linked. The clubs motivation and choice of charity has been reinforced over recent years due to subsequent Brain and Spine related conditions which have afflicted other members, past and present, of Clacton Swimming Club. The Triathlon continues to be the annual focus for those surviving members and the families of those who are no longer with us. They all take an active part in assisting us to make the event a success.

Sprint - 750m Open Water Sea Swim, 16km Off-Road Bike, 5km Run
Important: The updated Tri England rules 2016 require that the bike section of this event be classified as a Cross bike course and as such only Mountain Bikes will now be permitted for this event.
The race commences with a tide assisted sea swim along the coast and continues with multiple 4km laps of a mainly flat but challenging off-road bike course behind the sea wall towards Frinton-on-Sea and back.
This is followed by an out and back run along the top promenade of the Holland seafront before returning along the lower promenade beside the sea.
This traffic free event is ideal for those competitors who’d like to try something slightly different to round off their season and for novice competitors who’d like the challenge of a short open water sea swim with the knowledge that there is full safety cover on the water. There is also a relay option, where three athletes each complete one discipline each.
All the Clacton Triathlon events are electronically timed with a results screen and splits printer at the finish.
The Clacton Sprint Triathlon 2016 takes place in the morning - Provisional Start from 8.30am.
Swim: 400 metre or 750 metre open water tide assisted sea swim with full safety cover. Wet suits are usually compulsory but depend on how hot the summer is!

The course is clearly signposted and more than adequately marshalled – for pictures of the course please visit the Clacton Triathlon website at www.clactontriathlon.co.uk
Run: A single 2.5km or 5km lap out and back course on tarmac along the top promenade of the Holland seafront before returning along the lower promenade beside the sea. (NB. The Sprint Distance is a single 5km lap run)

The Clacton Triathlon organisers pride themselves on their reputation for having a great team of friendly marshals and helpers, being a great race to round off your season and a first class organised event. This is reflected in the number of competitors returning to race year after year and the numerous letters of thanks they receive after each year’s events.
As part of the registration process you can help The Clacton Tri raise funds for the Brain & Spine Foundation by adding a donation to your entry fee. If you are a UK Tax payer you can help further by ticking the Gift Aid box to allow the Brain & Spine Foundation to claim another 28p tax back from the Government for every pound you donate.
